Oppo and Volkswagen Sign Licensing Deal to Power Smarter Connected Cars

In a strategic move toward enhancing connected vehicle technology, Oppo and Volkswagen have entered into a new licensing partnership. This agreement grants the German automotive giant access to Oppo’s cellular standard-essential patents (SEPs), including crucial 5G technologies.

As modern vehicles continue to evolve into smart, connected machines, seamless and stable cellular connectivity has become more important than ever. This partnership will allow Volkswagen to integrate advanced communication capabilities into its cars, improving everything from infotainment systems to over-the-air updates.

Oppo currently ranks eighth globally for 5G patent ownership, holding more than 62,000 patents. The Chinese tech firm operates across 40 countries and regions, and this deal marks its first bilateral patent licensing agreement with an automotive manufacturer.

The move aligns with Volkswagen's broader goal of enhancing its digital services, particularly after facing stiff competition in the Chinese automotive market.
